The Summer Showcase is a collaborative event that takes place within the TD Irie Music Festival. The TD Irie Music Festival is an annual celebration of music and the arts taking place during the long weekend in August. This free outdoor festival provides a summer presentation opportunity that exposes dance artists to new audiences at three locations; Oshawa, Mississauga and in the heart of downtown Toronto.

dance Immersion presents its Summer Showcase at the TD IRIE Music Festival with a celebration of dance performed by a thrilling line up of remarkable entertainers. This year’s IRIE Music Festival will take place at Nathan Phillips Square. Performers include: Ubuntu Drum & Dance Theatre, Lua Shayenne & Company, The Blackstars, Holla Jazz and Ebnflõh Dance Company (Montreal). dance Immersion has been a part of this wonderful festival since its inception and returns once again with an exciting afternoon of dance. Now in its fourteenth year, the TD IRIE Music Festival is a celebration of music, dance, art and culture, which provides an opportunity to promote a greater understanding between the diverse cultures and traditions of our world class city.

Ubuntu Drum and Dance Theatre is a grass root children’s group committed to celebrating African culture and history through drumming, dance and theatre. The group has been performing since 2011 and has performed at various venues and community events in the Greater Toronto Area, entertaining, educating and delighting all who see these children perform. It is made up of ten drummers and eleven dancers who enjoy the cultural dance and drumming they execute.
LUA SHAYENNE & CO presents dance works that explore current subject matters with the aim to be a catalyst of social change and spiritual progress. Choreographer and founder, Lua Shayenne, draws on the aesthetics and values of traditional African dance and culture and creates dance pieces that seek to upset and challenge multiple conventions and stereotypes. LUA SHAYENNE and Company promotes community development as well as cross-cultural exchange and collaboration with national and international artists. S
Ebnflōh Dance Company is an organisation that facilitates the integration of Hip Hop dance from Montreal’s performing arts milieu, as well as the rest of Canada by continuing to push its artistic vision by remaining true to form, and the culture it represents. Continuous movement, ebb and flow… are the cornerstones of this dance company. Hip Hop not only in music but also in dance, having the profound desire to remain true to itself with authentic recollection, introspection and rejuvenation in order to transmit knowledge, tradition and culture. The company's mission is to contribute to the integration of Hip Hop dance in the performing arts scene, by introducing creative works that show commitment and innovation while remaining authentic to the culture it represents. Their vision is to set up a framework allowing the pursuit of outstanding dance pieces while creating other opportunities for professional street dancers.
The Black Stars are an Afrofusion company that mix traditional styles with contemporary movement to create unique and powerful performances. Under the visionary direction of Esie Mensah, this group came to life in 2012 and is a coalition of afro-influenced dancers committed to becoming nowadays leaders of AfroFusion Dance. Their pallet of skills combines more than 7 African dance styles including Azonto, Kuduro and Ndombolo that they talently showcase as one flawless artistic expression. While staying true to the art of African dance, they believe in the power of diversity and as a cosmopolitan ensemble, represent dance today that forges the path forwhat will be tomorrow.
Holla Jazz Through their soulful and funky approach to vernacular jazz dance, Holla Jazz presents engaging and entertaining performances, intriguing choreography, and dynamite collaborations. The Holla Jazz experience is marked by their cool and contemporary way of producing fresh dance works, all while inspiring a lasting love and appreciation for jazz dance and music. Established in 2016 by Artistic Director Natasha Powell, Holla Jazz was founded as a forum for developing and presenting artists that work and improvise together, to create harmonious and transformative experiences. These undeniably gifted dancers get down to both live and recorded music, as the company aims to reinvigorate jazz dance and its sister dances as an innovative, important, and necessary vehicles for expression.
